Was this review helpful to you? So their skin burn if they touch iron metal? Well then this renders the ENTIRE last act of the film pointless, as the "conundrum" that the characters find themselves in would have been instantly solvable.
But for the sake of having a third act at all, they just pretend that the characters forget what they learn instantly and never utilize the knowledge.
Not a smart script here. The beginning also made me hopeful for the approach to the villainous creatures - they were never shown, with only shadows and silhouettes and body parts popping up here and there.
This was successful in keeping them mysterious and should have been propagated to the second half. Instead, like some other recent horrors Mama for example , the secretive tension is fully abandoned and by the end we get low- budget cartoonish CGI creatures in full glorious view every few seconds.
Tension is simply incompatible with poorly animated fairies. The human characters were empty shells as well. The father shows personality exactly once in the very beginning and then abandons it.
The mother displays none, and just does what the husband asks of her subserviently most of the time. Overall, The Hallow is hollow of entertainment and creativity.
I appreciate the initial idea of what the writer and director were trying to do, but the final product is a regression for the horror genre and is near the bottom as far as horror.

Three teen strangers wake up in a mysterious land with no memory and no idea what is happening. Together they must work together and fight through the wild challenges present in the strange fantasy world.
Along the way, they discover new strengths to assist them in their long journey. Written by walkerkinsler. The Hollow operates in the same pacing and logic or lack of thereof of a dream, things come and go quickly, the world around is a mystery and nothing really makes sense, and that might be a deal breaker for people that wanted a long and compelling story, rather than just a fun ride.
The art style is a bit ugly, but it is in no way lazy and the animators do their best. The biggest let down is definitely the ending, regardless of what you wanted it to be, or if you already knew early on, it is very hasty, and very very very poorly made, and it has one of the things I hate the most in animation, it just made me cringe and almost ruined the show.
The entire time I was thinking "this is one of those shows that really starts at season 2", but after that ending, I'm not sure it will or if I care.
Still worth watching if you have free time, just don't bother if you find yourself not liking the characters, staying to find out the conclusion alone is not worth it.

While the movie is not about a haunting, it follows every single "family moves into isolated haunted house" trope and then some. It was almost overwhelming.
Seemingly crazy neighbor trying to warn family? Exploring damp and dirty attic? Baby monitor making weird noises?
Dog whimpering while chained outside? Item dropped in the car by a driver who then crashes while looking for it on the floor instead of stopping the car or just waiting til they get home?
Creatures afraid of light, so you have to go outside and restart the generator cause there's no electricity?
Little blonde girl who looks like a zombie? Every ounce of the movie was "horror ", think Haunting in Connecticut or Amityville Remake or any other generic horror.

Jun 03, Some originality and top notch creature design, that's about all The Hallow has going for it, but evidently, that's enough.
Oh, there's also a flaming-scythe. That's a thing. Gimly M Super Reviewer. Apr 10, This is a movie that never quite clicked for me despite, in theory, of having all the pieces necessary to make a fairly solid horror movie, to me at least.
Part of it is the fact that the movie's story really rang hollow for me. There is a certain universality about parents sacrificing everything hey have, including their lives, for their kids and this movie follows that mentality, but I just never really bought into it.
This is a film, of course, but part of the enjoyment of this medium is suspending your disbelief and, if even for a brief moment, pretending that what you're watching has some actual weight or importance.
That's not the case in this movie. It just feels like they're telling me that this is what I should feel, since it's what the characters themselves are feeling, but it just did not work for me.
There's just something about the film and the way the characters are written that negated any hard work put in by the cast.
And I'm not saying that the leads were terribly written, but there's just something off-putting about both of them and I honestly can't put my finger on what it was.
I did like, however, how it explored Irish folklore.
