While there, she meets and falls in reciprocated love with a tour guide, Rehan Aamir Khan. Her friends are over-protective of Zooni, as she is blind, but eventually help the two spend time together.
It seems that Zooni's romance will have a happy ending, but tragedy happens. Seven years later, Susheel Rawat Sharat Saxena of the Anti Terrorist Special Force and special agent Malini Tyagi Tabu are trying to track down the leader of a Kashmiri terrorist organization before he can get possession of the final piece needed to make a nuclear weapon.
Zooni becomes unwittingly involved when a wounded stranger appears on her doorstep. The first half of this romantic thriller was good, but not great -- it played out like a mostly typical Bollywood romance.
The second half, however, kept me riveted. The suspense and uncertainty were both written and portrayed well. Khan and Kajol were average in the romantic beginning, but were excelled during the thriller portion.
Zooni's parents were played by veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and Kirron Kher, who were excellent. Child actor Ali Haji gave a convincing performance as well.
The songs were a mixed bag, some just okay but some memorable; the incidental music, however, was quite effective.
Overall, Fanaa delivers near perfect entertainment. This movie is from 12 years ago, so bits of it feel a bit dated.
The story is not really believable -its got some crazy coincidences and plot twists, that seemingly only happen in movies.
But it is extremely well acted, and overall very engrossing. As many mentioned already, it really feels like two movies combined into one.
What I like about the movie - the superb performances from both leads, plus supporting actors like Rishi and Tabu. What I don't like about it and this may be because the movie is a bit dated at this point - Aamir's look in the first half of the movie.
Smarmy, looks really overweight, and he dresses like a pimp - if Karol's character was not blind, she probably would have run away! But in the second half, he looks exactly as the character demands of him.
Regardless, they are both first rate actors, and they make the struggles behind this almost impossible love story feel believable and real.

He plays a charming Kashmiri tour guide to perfection! The scene at Qutb Minar for the song Chand Sifarish is a taste of the magic that makes Aamir Khan so unbelievably attractive.
I'm glad that I finally watch this movie because I'm a big Aamir Khan's fan, though to be honest I didn't like it very much, first of all, even when is not a very old movie, I think because I saw it on feels outdated to me.
I found many situations and characters reactions unrealistic and in some cases ridiculous, I know is fiction but I feel this story has a lot of potential and it could have been done better.
I discovered Hindi movies just a few years ago, and Fanaa is one of my two top favorites. It is like two movies in one. The first half is sunny, youthful, and exhilarating while the second half is dramatic, emotional, and realistic.
I classify it as a modern Romeo and Juliet story, although the trials the two young lovers must undergo are quite different.
The ending is unbelievable, although it is the only way in which it could possibly end. Definitely one of my favorite movies of all time.
Initially hurt, Zooni refuses to let Rehaan leave her again, and the two of them get married by the arrangement of her father.
Tyagi has a report published about Rehaan, warning the public that he is a terrorist. Zooni's father sees this report and confronts Rehaan on finding the trigger in his pocket.
Rehaan accidentally throws Zooni's father off a ledge, killing him. He radios the IKF from an army officer's house but kills the officer when he discovers Rehaan.
Zooni finds her father's body, and Rehaan lies about his death. However, Zooni later sees the news report, and finds the trigger.
She takes her son and flees to the officer's house, where she radios for help. Tyagi tells her to stop Rehaan. Rehaan arrives the next day, and takes the trigger from Zooni, saying the IKF will kill her and their son if he doesn't.
Rehaan draws his gun on her, but can't bring himself to shoot. Zooni shoots him again, this time fatally, to stop him. Rehaan dies in Zooni's arms.
Zooni and her son later visit the graves of her father and Rehaan, who are buried next to each other. When her son asks if his father was wrong, Zooni tells him that his father did what he thought was right.
Fanaa was originally planned to be shot in Kashmir before Kajol backed out due to the continuing insurgency in that region. The director chose to move the Kashmir segment to the Tatra Mountains in southern Poland , which also provides suitably snowy and mountainous terrain.
The performances of the leads, Aamir Khan and Kajol , as well as their on-screen chemistry were praised. The lyrics were penned by Prasoon Joshi.

Thus, all theatre owners in Gujarat refused to screen the movie. Producer Aditya Chopra moved a petition to the Supreme Court of India asking them to direct the Gujarat government to provide protection to all cinema halls that wanted to screen the film, but was rejected.
Addressing the media, director Kunal Kohli said, "All theatre owners or exhibitors who wish to release this film can request for protection and the government should extend support.
