With Season Six, there is a case issue. Not all cases will be broken but I ended up buying four of this, three from sellers here and one at Best Buy in person, all four cases were broken.
The plastic was noticeably thinner than the plastic for the mega-sets on Seasons Three, Four and Five but also different from the plastic on One and Two, so that may be the reason.
A weaker, thinner case for only a few discs, as compared to the odd sets they made for the sets of Blu-rays combined with DVDs, would explain such breakage and eco measures to thin out the plastic, thereby using less of it to make each case, would appear to explain the difference from the early sets.
Seasons Seven and Eight were fine, thicker plastic. I ended up returning all but the used one I bought for myself and then got her a gift card to get herself this season, so she could decide how to handle it.
As for how to deal with it, they sell individual cases for these sets all over the place so, I'll get to the point finally, if you are buying this and get a broken case that is not too terrible, just keep it as many are broken and some are just terribly cracked and chipped and basically falling apart.
What you exchange it for will likely be worse, on Season Six only. If you get a really bad one, you can exchange or return for a slightly damaged case or the elusive intact case, you can opt to buy a replacement case for five dollars or so, from a random vendor, or of course you have the option to just deal with that case.
Essentially, this review is a warning that if you are purchasing this particular season as a gift, on the clock as it were, then you should leave enough time to exchange it or to purchase a replacement case before you need to to pass it on to the recipient.
All other seasons appear to be made of slightly thicker plastic. Good luck finding what is right for you and, in case you are just reading reviews to decide on whether to get this, like all of The Vampire Diaries, it is a wild, fun and dramatic ride that is absolutely worth taking, if you love vampire stories and lots of beautiful men kissing lots of beautiful women.
I watched Seasons on Netflix and being on a roll, even though the show has dropped in quality over the last couple seasons as they keep predicating the overarching story on more obscure ancient stories that have little to do with our little band of neck biters.
Season 6 was the apex of veering from the character based story that made the show popular. Combine that with the loss of the main character and I think Season 7 will likely be the last of Vampire diaries, my only hope is they get back to the characters in an attempt to put a bow on the story that started with yet another group of 22 year old high school students who magically never go to school but are outstanding students.
Vampire Diaries without Elena? I don't think so. I don't know what her career in acting holds but I figure she knows the clock is ticking on her looks so if she wants to turn the recognition from the show into anything more this is the time to try.
Other than a pretty girl turned woman I'm not sure the show really showed a lot of acting ability. At least Caroline showed she can sing and as a character has developed from an annoying dumb blond to a character that can carry a lot of the story.
The story was our 2 vamp brothers in love with the same girl whose surprising choice led to a lot of adventure. But with her gone and their relationship healed the major story has been told.
Season 6 put a pretty good end to the story of the series, I fear 7 and if any more will be like many shows that didn't know when to exit gracefully.
I have more hope for "The Originals" as it has a consistent story already established for fans of The Vampire Diaries and just might be able to pull off a successful spinoff.
So while I may watch some of Season 7 I think the best is far behind us and will be doing so with the morbid curiosity of if there is any good story left that isn't Elena awaking to a human Damon and the two slipping off for a happy life together.
While possible, that is an episode, not a season and this show doesn't have happy endings. I've really enjoyed The Vampire Diaries. At first I thought it was too influenced by Twilight, as it takes place in High School, and it is about a girl in love with two men, but the similarities end there.
The story rather quickly goes off in more other directions and involves Witches, Werewolves, the traditional kind, not shape-shifters like the Twilight universe, though they do form packs and have more awareness than the "children of the moon," an "Original" family of vampires, Doppelgangers and more of the traditional attributes and limitations of Vampires than Twilight.
Not that I have a problem with Twilight, I just was pleased to find it so different, after all, that story has been told on film already.
Anyway, TVD and it's offspring; The Originals, are well worth watching if you enjoy Vampire stories as much as I do, whether the more traditional, "Anne Rice" sort of Vampire, or the humanized, "Twilight" version.
There are both "good," think restrained, and "bad" Vampires here, as well as the kind of historical flashbacks some of us enjoy in our Vampire stories.
The costumes for the historical flashbacks are a little on the cheap side, but other than that, no complaints. I particularly enjoyed the introduction of Elijah and Klaus as The Originals; the original Vampire family, and the characters of Enzo, Lexi, Isabel, Nadya and the Vampire who dies from the werewolf bite after spending the night with Damon, her name escapes me for the moment.
Also, Jeremy, Tyler and Alaric are wonderful characters. This season has a bittersweet ending, with Nina Dobrev leaving the show as the central female lead, but it was a great run.
